Interview with Benjamin Franklin

It was my honor to sit down with Benjamin Franklin to discuss his views on some of the common topics of the day as well as his view of what the “American Dream” is.  The following post contains that interview and some interesting facts about Benjamin Franklin.

Before we start with the interview, I want to give you some back ground information on Benjamin Franklin and who he is.  He was born January 17,1706.  He was one of 10 children born to Josiah Franklin and his second wife Abiah Floger.  Franklin is one of the Founding Fathers of the …

Military Posers

1024px-Flag_funeralOne thing in the news that has me up in arms lately (and there have been a few), but this one I am going to write about.  I HATE MILITARY POSERS.  If you don’t know what I mean, here are just a few examples:

More People Than Ever Pretending to be Navy SEALS – “Only 500 [SEALs] served in Vietnam. And we’ve met all 20,000 of them,” said Steve Robinson, a former SEAL in Forsyth, Mo., and author of “No Guts, No Glory: Unmasking Navy SEAL Imposters.” NY Man Busted Pretending to be Soldier for First Class Upgrade – “Rock…

The Constitution: A Heavenly Banner

I have recently been reading a  book entitled, “The Constitution: A Heavenly Banner“.  This book is a collection of Constitutional relates speeches by Ezra Taft Benson, David O. McKay, J. Reuben Clark, Jr. and Bruce R. McConkie.

The book gets its name from a speech by Ezra Taft Benson given at the Marriot Center at Brigham Young University on September 16, 1986.  I would like to talk about this speech, and give what I feel are the bullet points or highlights of the speech.  You can get a copy of the speech in HTML, or MP3 format by following …

To vote or not to vote, that has NEVER been the question.

To vote or not to vote, that has NEVER been the question.  I have always maintained, and will always maintain that voting should NEVER be a question.  I care more that you vote, and that you vote for who you believe will do the best job, then you vote the way I WANT YOU TO VOTE.  In order for this Republic (and yes, America is a republic), it is important that the population of voters care enough to vote and vote for who they think best aligns themselves with their morals and view points.

If you don’t vote, then you …

“Under God…”

I was asked by a facebook friend the following questions on facebook the other day, and it made me think, I did not have a good answer as to why it was so bad, and such a big deal.

Why are we making political hay about the DNC and adding back in the words “in God we trust”?  Seriously help me see the value of focusing on it?  Clearly we know there are people out there who dont want God in politics and others who do.  Grasping to see the value of all the talk.

I had already started a …

Congress – we don’t need it anymore.

I heard something on the news today that boiled my blood, and made my head want to explode.   And I have to share it.

Back in the State of the Union address, President Obama said this:

Some of what’s broken has to do with the way Congress does its business these days.  A simple majority is no longer enough to get anything -– even routine business –- passed through the Senate.  (Applause.)  Neither party has been blameless in these tactics.  Now both parties should put an end to it.  (Applause.)  For starters, I ask the Senate to pass a simple

Guns and Peace…

A recent study made by the Institute for Economics and Peace was just released.  You can find the full study at the site: Vision of Humanity.   They rank the 50 States of the US in a Peace Index.  Utah ranked 6th in the most peaceful states.

What I find kinda funny with this study is that they include Availability of Small Arms as one of their indicators of peace.   But if you look at the numbers, it is not a very reliable indicator.  They rank the states from 1-50 on availability of small arms.   But this is a misleading indicator.  …

Why the Gun is Civilization

This essay has been floating around the internet.  It has been attributed to several authors, but the real author is Marko Kloos and was written on March 23, 2007 [Source].   He has granted permission to those who wish to use it for non-profit reasons.  I have not heard a better pro-gun essay, and wanted to post it here as well.  (If someone sends you this via email, and it is not attributed to Marko Kloos, please let them know who the really essay writer is.)
