Angel Baby

Over the last few months, I have learned exactly how hard it is to try to do everything the Lord asks of you and not expect him to help you out while doing it.  One of my big struggles with religion I would say is Faith.  I know that there is a creator, that things were planned and created and did not happen just by chance, but I find I have a hard time letting my pride go and actually rely on the Lord for help.  This blog post may sound different from other posts, but this one I am …

All is well in Zion… Stop being a pessimist.

Nephi’s Broken Bow by Jeremy Winborg

ONE of the principles that is taught in the Book of Mormon, and in modern teachings is that of,  “liken all scriptures unto us, that it might be for our profit and learning.” (1 Nephi 19:23).   Ezra Taft Benson in April of 1984 tells us to:  “We urge you to study the Book of Mormon as individuals and families and then to do as the prophet Nephi counseled: liken the scriptures to yourselves so that it will be for your profit and learning.”

To liken the scriptures to yourself is to compare them to

Weeds….

Weed: The term weed is a subjective one, without any classification value, since a plant that is a weed in one context is not a weed when growing where it belongs or is wanted. Indeed, a number of plants that many consider “weeds”, are often intentionally grown by people in gardens or other cultivated-plant settings.  [Source]

When Adam and Eve were cast out of the Garden of Eden for eating of the fruit from the tree they were told not to eat from there were several things that happened.  They then knew the difference from good and evil, they could …

Temptation Vs Sin

This is one of the biggest things that I think causes issued with people of the Mormon faith.  And I would say it also causes problems with most Christian faiths as well.  That is the difference between Temptation and Sin.

For most of my life, I was under the impression that Temptation was Sin.  If you were tempted to do something, then you had actually sinned in some way.  I think that it comes from several scriptures, as well as other peoples teachings.  In Matthew 5:28 it says, “That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her had committed …

Cleansing Fire

Wildfire

The other day in sacrament meeting one of the youth speakers talked about having the Holy Ghost cleanse your should by Fire.   I thought the idea of having the Holy Ghost actually burn your sins and desire to sin from you as very interesting.  So I figured I would research it some more.

John the Baptist in Judea said:

I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire” (Matt. 3:11).

President Packer said WHAT?

There has been a lot of “wars, and rumors of wars” over what President Boyd K Packer said in the Oct 2010 General Conference about the stance the Church has on Homosexuality.  The wars have started because of a talk entitled, “Cleansing the Inner Vessel.”  In that talk President Packer says:

We teach a standard of moral conduct that will protect us from Satan’s many substitutes or counterfeits for marriage. We must understand that any persuasion to enter into any relationship that is not in harmony with the principles of the gospel must be wrong. From the Book of Mormon

Spiritual Anorexia

For my birthday, my mother-in-law gave me a couple of CDs.  One of those CDs is a talk by Hank Smith.  The name of the talk is “My Soul Hungered and My Stomach Growled!”.   This talk reiterates one of the concerns that Momzoo and I have been having lately.  We feel that there is a trend in the LDS church to do what is popular, and if you don’t agree with what is said, you just don’t do it and eventually the Church will change its stance on it.   If you would like to read more about that, you can …

Priestcraft amoung us?

A huge stumbling block that I think (this is the gospel according to MK) we will see in the last day is that of “False Prophets” and “Priestcraft”.  I think we need to be very vigilant and remember where divine revelation comes from, and return to the basics of the gospel.  Spending to much time worrying about the unknown leaves your faith, hope, and charity in a venerable place.

Jesus warns of this in Matthew 24:11,24

11. And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.

24. For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew

Meeting the Challenges of Today – My Thoughts

As I mentioned before, I have been reading/listening to talks while I am on the treadmill, and my favorite recent talk is called “Meeting the Challenges of Today” by Neal A. Maxwell.  This talk was given at a BYU devotional on October 10, 1978.   The reason I picked this talk at first was its reference to the founding fathers and its reference to secularism and establishing irreligion as the state religion.  But that talk has more to do with fore ordination and how we should prepare for what is to come.  I want to highlight several points in his talk, …

Parable of the Talents – A Progressive View

In the BIBLE, there is a parable that is called the “Parable of the Talents” it can be found in Matthew 25:14-25. I am also going to include the text here as well (as found in the King James version of the Bible).

14 For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.

15 And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.

16 Then he
