To vote or not to vote, that has NEVER been the question.

To vote or not to vote, that has NEVER been the question.  I have always maintained, and will always maintain that voting should NEVER be a question.  I care more that you vote, and that you vote for who you believe will do the best job, then you vote the way I WANT YOU TO VOTE.  In order for this Republic (and yes, America is a republic), it is important that the population of voters care enough to vote and vote for who they think best aligns themselves with their morals and view points.

If you don’t vote, then you …

Temptation Vs Sin

This is one of the biggest things that I think causes issued with people of the Mormon faith.  And I would say it also causes problems with most Christian faiths as well.  That is the difference between Temptation and Sin.

For most of my life, I was under the impression that Temptation was Sin.  If you were tempted to do something, then you had actually sinned in some way.  I think that it comes from several scriptures, as well as other peoples teachings.  In Matthew 5:28 it says, “That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her had committed …

Amlicites, Amalekites, and Amulonites amoung us.

In the Book of Mormon there is reference to groups of people that at one time were Nephites and members of the Church of God and then for some reason they left the Church and openly rebelled against it.   I am not talking about people that just left the Church, but people who left the Church and then did whatever they could to try to ruin the Church and its members.

These people were so filled with hatred for members of the Church that they were even put in charge of the armies of those that opposed the Church in …

Random Religious Questions….

I have a couple of questions that I have been pondering that I would like to share, and then give what I think may be the answer to these questions.  I am by no means saying that what I think is the truth.  But we have been told to liken the scriptures to ourselves and these are the things that the scriptures have told me.

The first question came to me while reading 2 Nephi 4:18-21.  In those versus Nephi talks about how he is “encompassed about” by temptation.  He then says, “And when I desire to rejoice, my heart …

President Packer said WHAT?

There has been a lot of “wars, and rumors of wars” over what President Boyd K Packer said in the Oct 2010 General Conference about the stance the Church has on Homosexuality.  The wars have started because of a talk entitled, “Cleansing the Inner Vessel.”  In that talk President Packer says:

We teach a standard of moral conduct that will protect us from Satan’s many substitutes or counterfeits for marriage. We must understand that any persuasion to enter into any relationship that is not in harmony with the principles of the gospel must be wrong. From the Book of Mormon

Wandering in the desert

Do you ever feel that life is like wandering in a desert.  You have no idea where you are, where you have been, or where you are going?   The only thing you know is that it is hot and you think you have been here before.

After Lehi, his family, and Ishmael’s family left Jerusalem and were traveling in the wilderness, the Lord directed them in their travels with a Liahona.  Nephi describes it as such.

And it came to pass that as my father arose in the morning, and went forth to the tent door, to his great astonishment

In a convention speech given by Benjamin Franklin on June 2, 1787, he discusses the topic of salaries and political figures.

There are two Passions which have a powerful Influence in the Affairs of Men. These are Ambition and Avarice; the Love of Power, and the Love of Money. Separately each of these has great Force in prompting Men to Action; but when united in View of the same Object, they have in many Minds the most violent Effect. Place before the Eyes of such Men a [Post] of Honor that shall at the same time be a Place of

The Tendency to Faith

The Tendency to Faith

James O. Mason, “The Tendency to Faith,” Ensign, Apr. 1974, 21

Geneticists believe that the variations produced by chromosomal division and recombination is a matter of chance. However, they speculate about the possibility, sometime in the future, of controlling the genetic makeup of the individual, in the hope of preventing inherited diseases. But can the genetic code, with its unlimited variability, be intelligently programmed by understanding an application of divine law so that chance is not the determining factor? And is it possible that variation is being intelligently controlled to relate to our premortal development so

Priestcraft amoung us?

A huge stumbling block that I think (this is the gospel according to MK) we will see in the last day is that of “False Prophets” and “Priestcraft”.  I think we need to be very vigilant and remember where divine revelation comes from, and return to the basics of the gospel.  Spending to much time worrying about the unknown leaves your faith, hope, and charity in a venerable place.

Jesus warns of this in Matthew 24:11,24

11. And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.

24. For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew

Self Reliant – Really?

In Sunday School, we went over the lesson “In Mine Own Way“. We talked about how to be Spiritually Self Reliant, and then we talked about Physical Self Reliance. I want to make a couple comments on the second one.

Is Physical Self Reliance only about storing Water and Food in case you need it? I think that may be the letter of the law, but not the spirit of the law. You know, if you have the money, you can pay a company like daily bread – 25 year worry-free food storage to send you as much food as …
